THINGS TO DO IN RAWALPINDI

Rawalpindi, often referred to as simply Pindi by the locals, is the fourth largest city of Pakistan. Pindi is the sweet mixture of modern and traditional lifestyle. 


ANDROON SHEHR

Inner city (androon shehr) takes you back in time. From the bustling streets of Raja Bazar to the picturesque alleys of Bhabra bazar, Androon Pindi is a sight one has to experience themselves. The 117 year old Markazi Jamia Masjid is a must visit. If you want to explore the inner city, you better start at the heart of the city: Fawara Chowk. From this junction you can visit Raja bazar, Urdu Bazar, Kalan Bazar, Nankari Bazar, Kashmiri bazar, Kartarpura and the list goes on and on.

EXPERIENCE THE CUISINE 

Grato Jalebi, Sadeeq Halwai, Pappu Soda and Majeed Nihari are some places one must visit at all costs to experience the rich tastes this city has to offer. But the staple food Rawalpindi is known for is no other than Savour Pulao. This light rice dish is loved and adored in the twin cities and the people have most definitely developed an appetite for it. 


THE FORTS OF POTOHAR

Potohar plateau is a region with rich history and is part of the Rawalpindi division. The fort closest to Rawalpindi city is the Rawat Fort in the Rawat town. Other notable forts in the region include the might Rohtas Fort in Dina, Nandana Fort (when Al=Beruni calculated the circumference of the Earth), Kusak Fort, Pharwala Fort, and Sagni Fort.

AYUB PARK

Under the British raj, the area was known as Topi Rakh. Rakh is the Potohari word for ‘jungle’. Prior to partition, the ‘jungle’ served as a popular picnic spot. The area was converted into a national park in 1959, during the Ayub Khan regime. The park (which is often times called the largest park in Pakistan) has a zoo, an amusement park, a lake and much more.


AMRY MUSUEM

The The museum was opened in 1964 to preserve the past of Pakistan army through relics and photographs. The museum contains guns, artillery, tanks, planes, missiles, helicopters and much more. The most attractive feature of the museum is the replica of a Siachin bunker.
