THE FADING POPULARITY OF WWE

Back when I was growing up, WWE was a major part of my and every other kid's childhood. Wrestlers were found on our school bags, lunch boxes, stationary, t-shirts and every place else. Kids in my neighbourhood would by long shorts inspired by John Cena. We knew every wrestler's name, we had memorized their signature moves and their entry songs. Wrestling was everything we had.

But kids nowadays rarely watch wrestling. WWE's viewership has seen a sharp decline. This has little to do with WWE and more with the changing interests of the modern generation. Some say that since the iconic wrestlers all have left or retired, they do not feel the need to watch WWE. But I don't think this is the case, wrestlers come and go all the time. From Goldberg to Undertaker to Rock to John Cena, every era was loved by the fans. I bet there are some great wrestlers even now. But the real reason for wrestling's declines is that the audiences nowadays has much more options. When we were little, we only had access to TV and WWE was the most cool thing we could watch. But now, everyone had access to the internet, they can watch literally anything. With such fierce competition, WWE was bound to see a decline in viewership. Audiences also have developed shorter attention spans and enjoy short format entertainment such as Youtube videos and TikToks.
